
John N. Young, 88 of Mishawaka, passed away peacefully on November 4th. John was born in Brush Creek Alabama on May 12, 1929. He was the son of Callie and Robert Young. John is survived by his wife Mary (Threet), who has been the love of his life since they met as teenagers. They were married on July 28th, 1948. Also surviving are daughters: Glenda Chastain of West Lafayette, and Kathryn McGregor of Brownsburg. He was also blessed with grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Joe Chastain (Holly) of Columbus and their children, Ava, Hale and Finn. Dr. Benjamin Chastain (Autumn) of Columbus, and their children, Carter and Caroline. John Chastain of Noblesville is the youngest grandson. Also, Julie Marstal (Tim) of St. Louis and Neil Chastain of Cleveland. He is survived by grandson Matthew McGregor (Lauren) of Franklin and their children, Wyatt and Rhodes. Sarah McGregor of Brownsburg is the granddaughter who shared her Papa’s birthday. John was most proud that all his children and grandchildren graduated from college. John’s parents and siblings (Faye, Vernon, Etoile, Marvin, Jewel, and Doyle) are deceased. He will also be reunited in heaven with beloved dogs, Sammy and Bruno.
John worked for over 40 years for Butternut Baking Company. He enjoyed playing golf, making sure he had the best lawn in the neighborhood, and walking his dogs. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. A mechanic by trade, John was known for his ability to fix anything.
He loved going to church and was a member of the Currant Road Church of Christ in Mishawaka.
Services will be at the Elmwood Church of Christ in Lafayette, Indiana on November 8th with visitation at 10:00 and the funeral service at 11:00. The family is most appreciative for the love and caring of the staff at St. Mary’s Healthcare Center. Donations in John’s memory may be sent to the Current Road Church of Christ, 56465 Currant Rd.
